BROTHER
When you were born
There was rejoicing
A son to further the clan
I watched perplexed from afar
We had the same parents
Then why such fanfare
You were the preferred one
First to get your choice of
Room
Food
Clothes
Gifts
Love!
I watched from far and resented
I hated you and thought of
Various ways of making you disappear!
Daily I spun a web
You had drowned
You were kidnapped
You had fallen down
And died!
Then, you started to walk
Your awkward steps
Did something to my heart
Your chubby arms stretched
Melted my stony jealous heart
I scooped you up n held you close
Your smell of fresh powder
Pleasantly tickled my breath
And I became your slave!
Now you are grown up I have married
And left but you are present
Rocklike In the background
Showering love and caring
In numerous ways
Our bond with never sever
But endure the test of time.
Do you know what friendship is… it is to be brother and sister; two souls which touch without mingling, two fingers on one hand.
Victor Hugo, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Chapter 13
French dramatist, novelist, & poet (1802 - 1885)
Brothers and sisters are as close as hands and feet. ~Vietnamese Proverb
