Butterfly
Brilliant wings - hypnotic magnets
A Pied Piper attracting all willy- nilly
Akin to a moth drawn to a burning candle
Yet - blithely it glides on unawares.
Sprite-like and fancy free
Hopping from flower to flower
Teasing and tantalizing
A ruthless lover.
Sucking in the essences
Of the very flowers it graces
With its moody presence
And heartlessly flying away
Without attachments
Footloose transient Don Juan
A rolling stone, loving n leaving
Countless broken hearts
Strewn all over….
“Phyllis is my only joy,
Faithless as the winds or seas;
Sometimes cunning, sometimes coy
Yet she never fails to please.”
Sir Charles Sedley, “Song,” 1702
